Description: The University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering invites applicants for a Lecturer position within our undergraduate program. The department seeks individuals with exceptional promise for, or a proven record of, excellence in teaching. The position entails designing and teaching laboratory courses that complement the concurrent required lecture courses, including introductory materials science, electronic properties, thermodynamics, structure, and soft materials, and teaching the capstone senior design project class and other lecture courses. The position will be on a 12-month basis with successive one-year reappointments possible and a limit of four consecutive appointments, based on an annual review and the department’s needs. After four consecutive appointments, lecturers can be considered for a senior lecturer position. Exceptionally qualified candidates might also be considered for a senior lecturer position.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree or significant experience in experimental materials science, such as mechanical testing, thermal analysis, optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and scattering, or scanning electron microscopy.
