Multiscale Materials Modeling Fall Conference Set To Honor Emeritus Professor Vaclav Vitek
The Multiscale Materials Modeling conference is set to honor Department of Materials Science and Engineering Emeritus Professor Vaclav Vitek during their fall ceremony in Prague. In addition to honoring Vitek’s election as a Fellow of the Royal Society, the conference aims to celebrate the lifelong pioneering contributions of Vitek, whose work has profoundly influenced the understanding and advancement of in the field of computational materials science.
Roman Groger, a PhD student of Vitek’s and the chair of the modeling conference, was instrumental in orchestrating this event, ensuring that it serves as both a tribute to a distinguished career and a catalyst for future advancements in the field. Vitek’s work, characterized by its depth and foresight, has played a pivotal role in the advancement of atomistic simulations, making a lasting impact on the study and application of material behaviors and properties.
The lineup of keynote speakers include University of Pennsylvania Professor John Bassani, and former Penn faculty, Takeshi Egami, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the University of Tennessee, David Srolovitz from the University of Hong Kong, China. Other speakers include, Peter Gumbsch from the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials, Germany, Adrian Sutton from Imperial College London, and Yuri Mishin, from George Mason University.
Further details on the conference can been found on the event’s official website.
