MatGO

The Materials Graduate Organization (MatGO) is the graduate student group in MSE. MatGO is dedicated to building social connections within the department and providing professional development opportunities. MatGO serves as a liaison between students and the departmental faculty and staff, organizing a wide range of activities that strengthen community engagement. Social events include weekly snack and coffee breaks, a fall “Welcome Back” BBQ, Halloween, autumn, and winter holiday celebrations, and occasional happy hours and joint trivia events with other departments. MatGO also supports academic and professional development through qualifying exam practice talks, proposal Q&A panels for third-year students, and collaboration with staff to plan the annual recruitment weekend. Integrating new students as they transition into graduate life, MatGO actively mentors first-year students. MatGO also coordinates activities with other graduate student organizations on campus (GSEG, AWE, and GAPSA).

MatGO is open to all Master’s, Ph.D., and visiting graduate students. We look forward to seeing you at Penn MSE!
